OREANDA-NEWS. Ukraine is ready to develop new forms of partnership with the United States in the field of security. This was stated by President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky at a briefing with US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo. "Ukraine is ready to strengthen its army through the purchase of American weapons", Zelensky said.

He noted that the United States has been and remains a key ally of Ukraine in protecting its sovereignty. “The United States has been, is and will be our key ally in protecting Ukraine’s sovereignty”, he said at a joint briefing with the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Kiev on Friday. Zelensky added that Ukraine "very much appreciates the efforts of President Trump".

Zelensky called for more active involvement of the United States in a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the east of the country. "We are grateful for your personal firm stance on the war in the Donbass and the illegal annexation of Crimea", Zelensky said, referring to Pompeo.
