OREANDA-NEWS. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree by which he dismissed Vladimir Yelchenko from the post of Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN and Ambassador to Jamaica (concurrently). By another decree, the head of state appointed him to the post of ambassador of Ukraine to the United States.

“To appoint Vladimir Yurievich Elchenko as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States of America”, the text of the document says. This post was vacant after the dismissal of Valery Chaly in July of this year.

Elchenko began his diplomatic career in 1981. From 1997 to 2001, he held the position of Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN. Then he worked as ambassador to Austria and permanent representative of Ukraine to international organizations in Vienna. From July 2010 to December 2015, he served as Ambassador of Ukraine to Moscow. 

After the recall in connection with the situation in Crimea, he was again appointed to the post of Ukrainian Permanent Representative to the UN, replacing Yuriy Sergeyev. From May 11, 2019, he held the post of ambassador in Jamaica.
