Zakharova Said That Russia Considers Incident in Kyrgyzstan as an Internal Affair of the Country
“At the moment, our embassy in Kyrgyzstan has already commented on the situation - they said that we certainly consider this event as an internal affair of the country. Also, the embassy issued a recommendation to the Russians to avoid the area of the operation if it continues. I think we’ll give a deeper assessment of these events a little later", she said.
On August 7, Kyrgyz special forces began an operation to detain ex-president Almazbek Atambayev, suspected of corruption and deprived of immunity. However, his supporters in the village of Koy-Tash resisted, during the operation one special forces officer was killed, 52 people were injured. It wasn't possible to detain the former head of state, who repeatedly rejected all the charges against him. Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov said Atambayev violated the constitution by displaying armed resistance to security forces. The ex-president announced plans to bring his supporters to a rally in Bishkek.
On Thursday, Kyrgyz parliamentarians didn't take a decision to impose a state of emergency on the background of the situation surrounding the attempt to detain ex-president Almazbek Atambayev. This was reported to the Russian media in the press service of the legislative body. "The deputies refused to consider the draft resolution on the introduction of a state of emergency in Kyrgyzstan", a spokesman said. Atambaev led Kyrgyzstan from 2011 to 2017 and became the first president to voluntarily resign after a full first term.
