WHO Head Warns the World is on the Brink of Disaster
OREANDA-NEWS. According to WHO's Twitter account, the world today is on the brink of a moral disaster, said the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, who announced this at a meeting of the Executive Board.
The message cites the words of Gebreyesus: "I will say it bluntly: the world is on the brink of a catastrophic moral mistake - and the price of this mistake will be human lives and the very opportunity to live in the poorest countries of the world."
He pointed out that in the 49 richest countries, residents have already received more than 39 million doses of the vaccine, while in one of the poorest countries, only 25 vaccinations have been made. Plans to provide people from different countries with equal access to vaccinations are under threat, he said.
At the end of December, Tedros Ghebreyesus warned that new tests await the world in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. He called on countries to unite, share information in order to cope more effectively with the new mutations of SARS-CoV-2.
Ghebreyesus noted that WHO is working closely with scientists around the world to better understand the new varieties of coronavirus and how they affect the ability to spread and cause disease in people. He stressed that countries "should not be penalized for sharing new scientific data in a transparent manner."
