OREANDA-NEWS Vietnam handed over to Russia Maria Dapirka, a Russian woman convicted of drug smuggling, after serving her sentence at home. This is reported by TASS with reference to sources.

"In accordance with the decision of the Leninsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don and the decision of the competent authority of Vietnam, the convicted Maria Dapirka is subject to transfer to Russia. Local authorities handed over the Russian woman in Ho Chi Minh City to a special convoy of the Federal Penitentiary Service for delivery to her homeland with the participation of representatives of the Consulate General," the agency reports.

Maria Dapirka was detained at Ho Chi Minh City Airport in 2014. The girl arrived from Brazil. About three kilograms of cocaine were found in a cache mounted in her suitcase. The death penalty is provided for smuggling such a batch of drugs in Vietnam.

The girl herself claims that she did not know about drugs: her suitcase was given to her by her friend, whom she met in Thailand. The Russian woman's "lover" turned out to be a Nigerian drug dealer who repeatedly carried out similar operations, deceiving girls with whom he entered into close relationships and promising to marry them.
