OREANDA-NEWS. The Ukrainian delegation should return to work in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in January 2020. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic integration Dmitry Kuleba in an interview with Ukrainian news agency.
“I believe that January is an opportunity to return to the Assembly, to show that we are capable of tough decisions if our interests are strictly ignored. Throwing the Assembly once and for all is categorically wrong,” he said. Kuleba said that in January there will be a "reset" of PACE, since a change of leadership is expected. "In January, the Assembly will reboot, the chairman will be replaced, people who, with their feet, hands, ears and eyes returned Russia to PACE, will lose their posts. There will be a chance for an update", he added.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine refused to send its delegation to the PACE autumn session in Strasbourg in protest against the decision taken by the organization this summer to restore the full rights of the Russian delegation. The Russian delegation to PACE was deprived of the right to vote, participate in monitoring missions and become a member of the governing bodies in April 2014 after the reunification of Crimea with Russia.
