OREANDA-NEWS  The Valencian authorities have asked the Spanish government for tens of billions of euros to rebuild after the devastating floods that recently hit the region. This was announced by the president of the region Carlos Mazon, writes Bloomberg.

The amount requested from Madrid is 31.4 billion euros (about 3.3 trillion rubles). According to Mazon, the package of measures will include assistance with the reconstruction of houses and the purchase of vehicles. To date, the Valencian government has already allocated 250 million euros in aid, and the fund of Spanish billionaire Amancio Ortega has donated another 100 million to the victims.

The Spanish government said it was too early to assess the damage caused by the disaster. It is expected to announce a financial assistance package on Tuesday that will include a moratorium on income taxes for flood victims. In addition, the disaster insurance agency is also considering compensation requests from victims, but has not yet published any data on this.

Storm Dana covered Spain on October 29. In a few hours, it brought down a two-year rainfall rate on Valencia and other provinces. As a result, more than 100,000 cars and tens of thousands of homes were damaged. According to the latest data, at least 217 people did not survive the disaster. Rescue work after the flood is still ongoing.
