OREANDA-NEWS. The United States, after the cancellation of the June meeting of the Heads of State of the Group of Seven (G7), is planning to hold talks between the club’s leaders via videoconference in April and May. This was announced on Friday at a briefing by the official representative of the Cabinet of Germany, Steffen Seibert.
"The US said that the G7 summit scheduled for mid-June in physical form will not take place, but should be held as a video conference. In addition, the US said that they want to organize additional video conferences with the participation of G7 heads of state and government before this summit in June, namely, in April and May", Seibert said.
"The decision on how they will be carried out is always up to the presiding party. In view of the enormous global consequences of the pandemic, the chancellor welcomes this", he added.
On March 20, White House spokeswoman Judd Deere announced that US President Donald Trump had decided to cancel the June meeting of the G7 leaders at his Camp David residence because of the coronavirus. On Monday, G-7 leaders already held a videoconference meeting, during which they discussed the possibility of canceling the Tokyo Summer Olympics.
