As stated on the website of the US Department of Commerce, the US has introduced some new restrictions on access to technology in relation to the largest Chinese semiconductor manufacturer Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC). The SMIC Company was founded in 2000 and its headquarters is located in Shanghai with offices in the United States, Japan, Italy, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The press release quotes the words of the head of department Wilbur Ross: "We will not allow modern American technology to help build the armed forces of an increasingly aggressive opponent."

Inclusion on this sanctions list means that US technology providers will have to obtain special approvals to supply this company. In addition, those on the list will be denied permits for the supply of goods for the production of semiconductors with a thickness of 10 nanometers or less.

The US is displeased with the fact that this company is closely associated with the defense industry in China.

In addition to the aforementioned Chinese manufacturer, the list includes more than 60 other organizations that, according to the American side, pose a threat to US national security.
