OREANDA-NEWS. The Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives on Wednesday unanimously approved a resolution against Russia taking part in G7 summits until it "respects the territorial integrity of its neighbors". The meeting was broadcast on the committee’s website.
Resolutions of the House of Representatives and the Senate, which are adopted separately in each House of Congress, are not legally binding and are advisory in nature. Thus, legislators express their position on a particular issue, and the executive branch has the right to ignore such documents. The House of Representatives of the Whole will now consider this initiative.
The resolution is entitled "Disapproval of the participation of the Russian Federation in future G-7 summits until it respects the territorial integrity of its neighbors and adheres to the standards of democratic societies." The document once again criticized the Russian authorities for the situation around Ukraine. In mid-October, Acting Chief of Staff of the White House Mick Mulvaney told reporters that an invitation to Russia as a separate participant in the G7 summit in the United States in 2020 could be an interim step towards the restoration of the G8.
