OREANDA-NEWS. A special session of the UN General Assembly on anti-corruption will be held in 2021. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov in a special column for the Russian media, dedicated to the International Day against Corruption.
"In 2020, when the chairmanship of the BRICS Five will again be transferred to Russia, we intend to focus our efforts on coordinating our positions on the fight against corruption in various multilateral forums, primarily the UN and the G20, and strengthening cooperation with our BRICS partners in anti-corruption education and enlightenment, continuing joint work to prevent corruption in sports. An important part of our work will be the development of common approaches in preparing for the Special Session of the UN General Assembly against Corruption AI, which will be held in 2021", the diplomat said.
According to him, increased cooperation with BRICS partners does not mean that Russia will pay less attention to other existing formats. "On the contrary, continuing to maintain the central coordinating role of the UN mechanisms, our country seeks to use any useful experience to accumulate and supplement existing anti-corruption developments through cooperation within the framework of completely different multilateral instruments", Syromolotov noted.
