OREANDA-NEWS Among the unfriendly countries, Finland and Estonia depend most on Russian nickel, RIA Novosti found out after studying the data of the UN Comtrade platform for the first half of the year.
Thus, Russia's share in Finnish nickel imports for six months amounted to 88.4 percent, or $ 335.7 million, and in Estonian — 44.1 percent, or $ 1.5 million.
In addition, supplies from Russia took a prominent place in the purchases of this metal by the Czech Republic — 7.7 percent ($14.4 million), Germany — 7.4 percent ($80.1 million) and Bulgaria — 5.7 percent ($485.5 thousand).
Among the unfriendly countries, Slovenia also bought Russian nickel — four percent (561.3 thousand dollars), the Netherlands — 2.6 (13.8 million dollars), Poland — 2.4 (2.8 million dollars), Latvia — 1.6 (9.6 thousand dollars) and Spain — one and a half percent (2.4 million dollars).
Russia accounted for less than one percent of nickel imports by Slovakia (43.6 thousand dollars), Japan (8.8 million dollars), South Korea (407 thousand dollars) and Denmark (53.3 thousand dollars).
By the end of 2023, Russia ranked fourth in the world in nickel production with a share of six percent.
Last week, at a meeting with members of the government, President Vladimir Putin recalled that Russia is among the world leaders in the supply of many types of raw materials, and suggested thinking about restricting exports of uranium, titanium, nickel and some other goods to unfriendly countries in response to sanctions. But this should not be done to your own detriment, the head of state stressed.
