OREANDA-NEWS. Wagner’s Russian private military company deployed about 1,000 troops in Libya, reinforcing Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar’s troops, Reuters reports citing a secret report by UN experts that the agency was able to familiarize with.
A 57-page report submitted to the UN Security Council Committee, created to monitor compliance with the sanctions imposed in connection with the situation in Libya, states that there are also groups of snipers among PMC fighters. UN experts estimate the total number of Wagnerites in Libya, with links to open source data and witness reports, at 800–1200.
At the end of September 2019, the American media reported that about a hundred mercenaries of PMC Wagner arrived at the forward base to participate in the offensive of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Haftar in Tripoli. One of the mercenary commanders (his name is not given) then confirmed to the agency that the Russians were participating in the battles in Libya, and noted that some of them died during the clashes.
