Ukrainian Foreign Minister Accused Russia of Not Accepting Ukraine into NATO
OREANDA-NEWS. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba accused Russia of not being provided with a NATO Membership Action Plan for Kiev. He stated this on the air of the ICTV channel.
“We must honestly say that the main obstacle to granting MAP to Ukraine right now is the unwillingness to send such a signal to the Russian Federation,” the diplomat said.
According to Kuleba, there are many skeptics in the alliance regarding Ukraine's membership. The minister added that the task of Kiev is to work with these countries.
"I was in Berlin last week, held meetings there with all key political parties, with the German government, and we talked about this," he said.
He complained that Berlin is extremely skeptical about the possibility of Kiev joining the organization.
The other day, Russian leader Vladimir Putin talked in an interview about "red lines" for Russia and noted that if Ukraine joins NATO, the flight time of missiles from Kharkov or Dnepropetrovsk to Moscow will be reduced to seven to ten minutes.
Earlier, Kuleba said that Kiev expects to receive an action plan for NATO membership in 2022. NATO leaders at a summit in Brussels on Monday supported the right of Ukraine and Georgia to join the alliance. However, representatives of the military bloc declared the need to continue reforms and did not name the timing of the possible entry of these countries into the organization.
Experts believe that the country will not be able to apply for NATO membership in the next 20 years.
