OREANDA-NEWS There have been no official applications from Turkey to join the BRICS at the moment. This is reported by TASS with reference to a high-ranking diplomatic source in Ankara.

The source reacted to a Bloomberg report on Turkey's accession to the BRICS. The Turkish diplomat did not confirm or deny the information about applying for membership in the association.

"There have been no statements on the part of our department in this regard," the agency interlocutor stressed. The diplomat refrained from making more detailed comments.

On the afternoon of September 2, Bloomberg reported, citing sources, that Turkey had officially submitted an application to join the BRICS. According to sources, the administration of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan proceeded from the need for cooperation with developing countries.
