OREANDA-NEWS  Turkey has received an offer to become a BRICS partner country, Minister of Trade of the Republic Omer Bolat said in an interview with tvnet.

"Turkey has been offered to become a partner country in the BRICS, this is a transitional process," he said.

Bolat noted that joining the association will bring significant benefits to the republic, as it will allow cooperation with all the most important global platforms.

As Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted in early November, Moscow welcomes Turkey's interest in rapprochement with BRICS, but the decision on the parameters of Ankara's participation in the work of the association will be made, including on the basis of consensus of its members. He added that Russia stands for expanding BRICS ties with the countries of the Global Majority, primarily with those who support multilateralism, pursue a sovereign foreign policy and do not join unilateral sanctions.

The BRICS Summit with the participation of the heads of state was held in Kazan from October 22 to 24. BRICS is an interstate association created in 2006 by Russia, China, India and Brazil, and in 2011 South Africa joined it. Moscow has been chairman of the organization since January 1, 2024.

Since the beginning of 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE and Saudi Arabia have joined the BRICS. Russia's presidency of the association is held under the motto of strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security.
