OREANDA-NEWS US President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he will impose additional 10 percent duties on all imported Chinese goods if Beijing does not take measures to limit the entry of the Chinese narcotic opioid drug fentanyl into the United States.

"Until this stops, we will charge China additional 10 percent duties on top of any additional tariffs on all their many goods imported into the United States of America," Trump wrote on the social network Truth.

He noted that he "had a lot of talks with China about a huge amount of drugs, in particular fentanyl, that are being sent to the United States, but to no avail."

In November 2023, at a meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific summit in San Francisco, the Chinese leader reportedly agreed to control chemical companies to stop the flow of both fentanyl and the source material used for its production.

Trump also said that he intends to impose a 25 percent tariff on all goods entering the United States from Canada and Mexico from the first day after officially taking office.

"January 20 (inauguration day - IF) (...) I will sign all the necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25 percent tariff on all goods imported into the United States," he wrote on the Truth social network.

Trump noted that "thousands of people are rushing (to the US - IF) through Mexico and Canada, which leads to unprecedented levels of crime and drugs."

He stated that "this tariff will remain in effect until drugs, in particular fentanyl, and all illegal aliens stop invading our country," adding that "both Mexico and Canada have the absolute right and power to easily solve this long-brewing problem."
