OREANDA-NEWS  The inauguration of Republican Donald Trump, who secured the number of electoral votes necessary to win the presidential election, is scheduled for January 20, 2025 at the Capitol in Washington, USA Today reported on Wednesday.

The events scheduled for inauguration day include the swearing-in of the new president and a speech by the head of state. Other events will take place before and after the ceremony, including a ceremonial parade and an inaugural ball.

Traditionally, on this day, the newly elected president and Vice President and their spouses come to the White House, where they are greeted by the outgoing president and Vice President, also with their spouses. This custom symbolizes the peaceful transfer of power. In 2021, Trump boycotted the inauguration of U.S. President Joe Biden.

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump declared victory in the presidential election. The leading American media following the vote count also declared him the winner.

Between 73 and 79 days after the election, the President-elect of the United States must take office and take the presidential oath of office. The inauguration is held at each new term, even if the president remains in office for a second term.

Up to and including 1933, the inauguration took place on March 4, and since 1937 it has been held on January 20 at noon local time (at 20:00 Moscow time). The exceptions were the inaugural ceremonies of Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama, held in 1957, 1985 and 2013, respectively. These ceremonies took place on January 21, as January 20 fell on a Sunday.
