Toyota will lay off all employees of the Russian plant by the end of the year

OREANDA-NEWS Japanese automaker Toyota will lay off all employees of the Russian company in St. Petersburg by the end of 2022. The company's press service told Interfax about this.
The company started the process of dismissal of employees on November 14. "Organizational and staff events will last until the end of 2022. During the period from November 14 to December 2, most of the plant's employees were dismissed by agreement of the parties," the message reads.
In September, the number of staff was 2.35 thousand people, at the moment there are 137 employees in the staff of the branch. After the suspension of work, the local Toyota company is undergoing a conservation procedure, representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia said earlier. The department and the city authorities are currently working together on various options for the development of production at the plant. The Ministry of Industry and Trade stressed that FSUE NAMI is not currently planning to purchase the enterprise.
Toyota announced its decision to close the plant in the village of Shushary in St. Petersburg, which has been operating in the country for 15 years, at the end of September. The automaker has planned to restructure its representative office in Moscow to support retail chains and provide customer service in the country. The company's losses from the cessation of production in Russia amounted to 96.9 billion yen (more than $ 650 million).
