OREANDA-NEWS. The Chinese social network TikTok has officially filed a lawsuit against the executive order of US President Donald Trump, which provides for a ban on its use in the country if it is not sold to an American company. It was reported on Tuesday night by the Chinese media.
"It is not easy for us to sue the government, but we have no choice but to act to protect our rights, as well as the rights of our communities and employees," TikTok said in a press release.
Trump's decree, signed on August 6, will prohibit any transaction by any person or in relation to any property under the jurisdiction of the United States with ByteDance Ltd., which is the owner of TikTok, after 45 days after the date of its publication.
Trump's subsequent executive order gave the company 90 days to complete the deal.
The original executive order stated that TikTok posed a threat to the US economy and national security. US officials fear the Chinese government will gain access to data from TikTok users, including US citizens. The company claims that it never transfers such data to the authorities.
American Microsoft Corp. reported that it is negotiating the purchase of the American business TikTok. In addition, at least two more companies - Twitter Inc. and Oracle Corp.
