Third Committee of UN General Assembly Discussed the Situation in Xinjiang

OREANDA-NEWS. The human rights situation in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the PRC on Tuesday was the subject of active discussion in the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly. The countries' support for the opposing positions of China or the United States resulted in two opposing statements.
54 countries, including Russia, supported China’s ongoing counter-terrorism policies. “We express strong rejection of the practice of certain countries in politicizing the topic of human rights”, the statement said at a meeting of the committee on Tuesday, representatives of Belarus. “We note China’s outstanding achievements in the field of human rights".
