OREANDA-NEWS. British Prime Minister Theresa May, at a meeting with Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan, intends to demand that he extradite the Russians accused of being poisoned by Skripale in London. It is reported by the British media. “I will explain what position London has in the Salisbury case. We believe that these individuals should be held accountable”, she said.
The politician added that she knows that Russia doesn't extradite its citizens. “There are European arrest warrants for these people, and if they leave Russia, we will do our best to bring them to justice”, she said. On June 27, Vladimir Putin, in an interview with the British newspaper The Financial Times, said that the story of the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter "isn't worth even five kopecks". According to the Russian leader, the former colonel of the Main Intelligence Directorate has already been punished in Russia and was not of interest. “All this turmoil about intelligence and counterintelligence isn't worth serious interstate relations”, he said.
On May 26, a spokesman for May said that the meeting of the Russian President and the British Prime Minister at the G-20 summit in late June doesn't mean the normalization of relations between Moscow and London.
Relations between Britain and Russia have seriously deteriorated after the incident in Salisbury on March 4, 2018. Then the former employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate Sergey Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found unconscious on a bench. Experts found out that they were poisoned by a nerve agent. London blamed Moscow for the incident and named the names of the alleged perpetrators - Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov. The main suspects have rejected all accusations and are currently in Russia.
