The US has Closed It's Embassy in Kabul
OREANDA-NEWS. After the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, the United States suspended it's diplomatic presence in this country for an indefinite period and moved their embassy from Kabul to Doha, the capital of Qatar. The United States will temporarily carry out diplomatic work from Qatar, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said late on Monday, August 30. A few hours earlier, the last American servicemen left the territory of Afghanistan, thus ending the 20-year mission of US troops in the Hindu Kush.
«The United States is opening a new chapter in relations with Afghanistan», Blinken said, explaining this as «an unsafe environment and a political situation». This «new diplomatic mission» will be carried out by a new team led by Ian McQueary from the territory of Doha, the US Secretary of State said. Until now, McQueary was the second-highest-ranking diplomat at the US Embassy in Kabul.
According to Anthony Blinken, Washington is ready to cooperate with the «Taliban» if they «fulfill their obligations». The new authorities of Afghanistan must earn the support and recognition of their claims to legitimacy in the world community, he stressed.
«We did not take out everyone we wanted to take out», admitted the head of the US central command, General Kenneth Mackenzie. According to him, since August 14, 123 thousand civilians have been evacuated from Afghanistan by air, including 79 thousand on American military aircraft. Despite this, a large number of Afghans and foreigners in need of protection remain in Afghanistan, who could not be evacuated.
