OREANDA-NEWS Banking relations between Turkey and Russia are under attack from the West, the United States will do everything possible to hinder the development of Turkish-Russian relations, Haber Global TV channel reported.
Turkish exporters, in the face of problems with bank payments from Russia, are trying to resolve the situation through banks of third countries, the situation is becoming critical, the Ekonomım newspaper wrote on Thursday.
"The sanctions imposed against Russian banks... They have a negative impact on the payment system of Turkey and Russia. Banking relations between the two countries are constantly under attack from the West," the TV channel reports, noting that the countries cooperate on energy supplies and agricultural products, and among the important ideas for trade development is the creation of a gas hub in Turkey and a Russian-Turkish bank. A RIA Novosti source reported in early February that the creation of such a bank is being discussed by departments to solve problems with payment transfers.
Evaluating the idea of creating such a bank, economist Ugur Chivelek drew attention to the importance of the timing of this project. In addition, according to him, in order to solve the problems, trade between Russia and Turkey must develop, and it is necessary to pay attention to the prospects of all horizons - short-term, medium-term, long-term. In his opinion, an increase in energy exports to Turkey would be a positive factor for the Russian Federation, and for Turkey - exports of goods and services to the Russian Federation.
In addition, according to him, an increase in the share of national currencies in settlements between countries could simplify such a task. The expert noted that "the United States will do everything possible to hinder the development of Turkish-Russian relations." "In particular, they will threaten Turkey. Their threats against Russia did not work. Time will tell how effective the threats against Turkey will be," he said.
Since January 1, Turkish exporters have faced bank refusals to accept money transfers from Russia. According to a RIA Novosti source, the problem is partly related to US pressure on Turkey in connection with sanctions.
The Turkish Ministry of Trade has taken up the issue, Moscow is in dialogue with Ankara. The Turkish side is officially aware of the existing problems in payment transfers with Russia, considers the situation non-catastrophic, the relevant departments of the two countries are working to resolve the situation, a source in the presidential administration told RIA Novosti. At the same time, a source in the banking sector reported on February 14 that the United States, based on the sanctions policy, is warning a number of private banks in Turkey about the need for careful verification of payment transfers with Russia, reaching a threatening tone.
