The United States Refused to Accept Help from Russia to Their Frozen States
OREANDA-NEWS. Moscow offered to help the frozen American states of Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, but the United States refused Russian aid. This was stated in an interview with RIA Novosti by the Consul General of Russia in Houston Alexander Zakharov.
The Russian diplomat explained that, based on humanitarian considerations, the Russian leadership sent a request to the authorities of the states most affected by the disaster - Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana - whether they plan to turn to foreign countries for help. He noted that if such an official appeal is received, the Russian side would be ready to react to it promptly.
According to Alexander Zakharov, the Americans replied that "they do not need additional material resources, but they are extremely interested in studying the Russian experience in building infrastructure adapted to low temperatures."
Unusually cold, frosty and snowy weather invaded part of the United States in February, with at least 58 casualties. Texas was among the hardest hit states.
US President Joe Biden sent humanitarian aid to Texas - basic necessities, including food, water, 60 generators and blankets. Due to the critical weather situation, the president also declared a state of emergency in several states.
