OREANDA-NEWS The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have lost the US-made M60 AVLB bridge-laying machine, which is based on the rare M60A2 Starship tank. This is reported by Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

The engineering vehicle was destroyed by the Russian Armed Forces during the operation to liberate the Kursk region.

The first bridge-laying machines were built on the basis of the M60 and M60A1 tank hulls, and from 1987 to 1996 the M60A1 AVLB was produced. These vehicles are based on the M60A2 Starship, a tank that could fire conventional shells and Shillelagh anti—tank missiles. It is believed that 18 M60 AVLB bridge-laying machines have been transferred to Kiev.

The machine can carry an 18-meter-long bridge structure with a lifting capacity of 60 tons or a 15-meter bridge with a capacity of 70 tons. The M60A1 AVLB weighs 48.4 tons.

Earlier in March, it became known that the Russian Armed Forces had captured a German Biber tank bridge-laying machine transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region. The vehicle on the chassis of the Leopard 1 tank carries a 22-meter-long bridge.
