OREANDA-NEWS. US President Donald Trump called on Russia and China to cut spending on weapons production. According to him, in this case Washington would have taken a similar step. In the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Trump's statement was considered hypocrisy.

“As you know, China spends a lot of money on the military, just like us and Russia. These three countries, I think, could together stop these costs and spend money on something more useful for a long-term peace. I think it would be much better if we united and did not manufacture these weapons, ”said the American leader at a meeting with Vice Premier Liu He. 

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense, Alexander Sherin, in a conversation with a correspondent for the Federal News Agency, noted that Trump, arguing about the excessive spending of world powers on weapons, is very cunning.“This is a hypocritical and cynical statement, Trump is trying to build a wolf in sheep's clothing. For people who understand what they are talking about, such a statement causes only bewilderment and laughter, ”says the Russian parliamentarian. 

According to him, if we talk about military budgets, Russia, compared to the United States and China, pursues the most competent and balanced policy, not allowing itself to be drawn into an arms race. Thanks to this, Moscow ensures maximum efficiency of the army at moderate costs. The representative of China called this idea a good one. In trump's promise to cut military spending after Russia and China, Sherin did not believe it: the Russian politician is convinced that the United States will never accept this.

Recall, the US defense budget for 2019 is 716 billion dollars, which is a record in the history of the country. Of these, 69 billion allocated to foreign operations, including fighting in Syria, Libya, Iraq, Yemen and other countries.
