OREANDA-NEWS  The Russian Embassy in Romania will suspend the work of the Russian Center for Science and Culture, as well as the school attached to the diplomatic mission due to a reduction in the number of diplomats, Russian Ambassador to Bucharest Valery Kuzmin said in an interview published on Wednesday in the Izvestia newspaper.

"As a result of a sharp reduction in the quota of diplomatic and administrative-technical staff of the Embassy, one in two Russian diplomats and two out of every three technical staff will leave Bucharest. We will have to suspend the work of the Russian Center for Science and Culture, the school at the embassy, without the prospect of resuming in the foreseeable future, as well as reduce a number of administrative and technical units to the limit," Kuzmin said.

At the same time, the embassy, according to him, expects that "it will be possible to preserve the functional core of the diplomatic mission, thanks to which consular services for Russian citizens, maintaining contacts with compatriots and cultural and humanitarian ties will be provided, although in a significantly reduced volume."

"As for interstate relations, diplomatic dialogue, they have already been de facto reduced to an absolute minimum due to a well-known factor that is openly talked about at a high level in Bucharest: Romania's foreign policy is determined by its strategic partnership with the United States, and they, as you know, are openly pursuing an anti-Russian policy," the diplomat concluded.

In June, the Romanian authorities informed the Russian side about the requirement to reduce the staff of the Russian Embassy in Bucharest by 51 people. A statement issued by the Romanian Foreign Ministry said that Russia would have to cut 21 diplomats and 30 technical staff.
