OREANDA-NEWS The Russian Embassy in Estonia confirmed to RIA Novosti that an act of vandalism against the Russian diplomatic mission was committed by a citizen of the Russian Federation Arkady Babchenko*.
Earlier, the press service of the Estonian Police and Border Guard Department reported that on Sunday night, a man born in 1977 threw eggs at the wall of the building of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Tallinn. A police patrol detained a man on the spot, a criminal case was opened against him. The Postimees newspaper reported on Monday that journalist Arkady Babchenko*, who was previously included in the register of foreign agents by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation and is known in the past for working for the SBU, admitted that he threw eggs at the building of the Russian Embassy in Tallinn. "The police received information confirming that the hooligan who committed an act of vandalism against the Russian diplomatic mission is a citizen of the Russian Federation Arkady Babchenko*, born in 1977," the press service of the embassy reported. Earlier, the embassy reported that we consider this incident as the result of an "anti-Russian campaign unleashed in Estonia" and called on the police to "properly punish the culprit."
Russian diplomats note that this is not the first hooligan trick against the Russian diplomatic mission. "Unfortunately, our repeated appeals to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic with the requirements of conducting investigations and bringing the perpetrators to justice did not lead to substantive results. The material damage caused to the embassy has not yet been compensated," the embassy stressed.
The diplomats recalled that, in accordance with the obligations assumed, Estonia is obliged to comply with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 and take all appropriate measures to protect the premises of the embassy from damage.
