The Number of Flood Victims in Indonesia Reached 43
OREANDA-NEWS. The death toll in the flooding in the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta and surrounding areas, has increased to 43 people. This was reported by Jakarta Post newspaper citing the country’s Social Welfare Department and the National Disaster Management Authority.
In 90 districts, it has been raining heavily from 31st of December, and many rivers overflowed. According to data on the evening of January 2, more than 400 thousand people were forced to leave their homes and move to shelters. Earlier it was reported that rescuers could not reach some areas of the city to evacuate local residents. There are numerous failures in traffic and power supply.
Indonesia’s cabinet secretary warned that extreme weather may continue throughout Indonesia until January 7.
