OREANDA-NEWS Marine terminal for the reception of cruise and passenger ships in the city of Pionerskiy (Kaliningrad region) It will be able to receive the first car ferries in the summer of 2024. This was announced by Andrey Moshkov, head of the Kaliningrad department of FSUE Rosmorport.
"The active phase of the port construction is currently underway. The issue of allocating the Berth No. 1 terminal for operation is being considered. It will work primarily by accepting cargo ships. In July, we hope to prepare the appropriate infrastructure and receive car ferries there," Moshkov said at the regional conference of the Association of International Road Carriers ASMAP-Baltic 2024.
According to him, the terminal in Pionerskoye will work, first of all, in cases when queues form at the port of Baltiysk, where the main cargo terminal for ferries is located. This may be due to the fact that additional vessels will enter the cargo line between the Kaliningrad Region and the ports of the Leningrad Region and St. Petersburg in the near future.
So, in April, a cargo and passenger ferry should appear on it. He will be able to take on board up to a hundred road trains, which will significantly reduce the tension that exists today with the delivery of rolling equipment to the region, concluded Moshkov.
As reported, the design capacity of the terminal provides for the processing of 80 thousand units of rolling cargo with 312 ferry calls per year. It is also designed to receive about 225 thousand cruise and 80 thousand ferry passengers per year.
Currently, the construction of the terminal is being carried out by the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Marine Rescue Service". The contract value is 8.511 billion rubles. The completion date of the facility is November 30, 2024. At the same time, the deadline for the execution of the entire contract is January 20, 2025.
The importance of the Kaliningrad sea freight line increased after Lithuania imposed restrictions on rail and road transit of goods subject to EU sanctions in the summer of 2022, with certain reservations and quotas for their volumes. At the same time, transit of sub-sanctioned goods by road through Lithuania is prohibited.
At the beginning of March, a total of 24 vessels provided sea cargo transportation between the Kaliningrad Region and the main territory of Russia. They operate on several regular lines: Ust-Luga - Baltiysk, Bronka - Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg - Baltiysk, St. Petersburg - Kaliningrad.
