OREANDA-NEWS. Warsaw Mayor Rafal Tshaskovsky said that the Polish capital seized Russian property at 100 Sobieski Street in order to transfer it to Ukraine, RIA Novosti reports.
“We took ownership of the building and want to give it to our Ukrainian friends <...> In the next few hours, we will be able to calmly enter here to determine whether we can repair this building or, possibly, partially demolish it. We don’t know what condition it is in,” Tshaskovsky said.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Andriy Deshitsa said that the building would be taken on a long-term lease.
“Today I had plans to climb this building and plant the Ukrainian flag. But we want to do everything according to the law in agreement with the mayor,” Deshitsa said.
Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that the dialogue with Russia is "senseless". He made the corresponding statement in an interview with CNN, RIA Novosti reports.
“Russia attacked Ukraine in 2014. Prior to that, she attacked Georgia. These attacks were unprovoked, and time after time we heard: "We need to maintain a dialogue with Russia." Dialogue with Russia does not make sense,” the head of state said.
Speaking about the consequences of refusing dialogue with Moscow, the Polish leader also expressed the opinion that it is necessary to put "very tough conditions" on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“It is necessary to say: “Until you agree to these conditions, we have nothing to talk about with you,” the politician said.
He also said that Poland, together with the European Union, will continue to support Kiev and impose new sanctions against Russia.
Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called for the early organization of an EU summit on the topic of the Russian Federation and sanctions due to the events in the Ukrainian village of Bucha. He stressed that the EU should confiscate all the property of the Russian Federation in the banks of Western Europe, the property of Russian oligarchs and break off all trade relations with Russia.
