OREANDA-NEWS The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili announced the beginning of the impeachment procedure against President Salome Zurabishvili, it will begin with a debate on the violation of the head of the Republic of the Constitution of the country.
"The invitation to participate in the session of the Parliament was sent to President Salome Zurabishvili. After the impeachment debate is over, the issue will be put to a vote," Papuashvili told reporters on Wednesday.
In turn, the presidential administration issued a statement in which it protested, noting that the discussion in parliament of such an important issue as impeachment of the president is reduced to an ordinary meeting of the supreme legislative body, without the invitation of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia.
The leader of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze, told reporters that Zurabishvili "grossly violated the Constitution and it could not go unnoticed."
At the same time, he noted that the execution of Zurabishvili's impeachment "is reduced to almost zero", since the parliamentary majority does not have the necessary votes of deputies.
Representatives of the parliamentary opposition, who declared their non-participation in the vote, call the impeachment of the president initiated by the ruling party a "circus performance" and an attempt to cover up many internal and external problems of Georgia.
