OREANDA-NEWS Security measures have been strengthened in the Georgian Parliament before the start of consideration of the draft law "On Transparency of foreign Influence" in the second reading. This is reported by Sputnik Georgia.
"Only persons invited by the relevant structural units will be allowed to attend the planned parliamentary events (including committee meetings)... The purpose of these measures is to ensure a working and safe environment in the Georgian Parliament Palace," the newspaper quotes a statement from the Georgian parliament, in which the security level is designated as "yellow".
Consideration of the bill on foreign agents proposed by the ruling Georgian Dream — Democratic Georgia party is taking place against the background of protests outside the parliament building. Opposition politicians criticize this bill, which, according to them, "puts Georgia's friends and enemies on the same level, labels and hinders Georgia's integration into the EU."
The draft law, adopted by the Parliament of Georgia on April 17, provides for the registration of non-governmental organizations and the media if 20 percent of their annual income is income from abroad. However, no restrictions are imposed on their activities.
Earlier, Georgia accused the United States of financing radical groups. This was stated by the speaker of the country's parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, who noted the negative impact of American policy on relations between the two states.
