OREANDA-NEWS The Group of Seven (G7) countries are in favor of continuing the dialogue between the Russian Federation and the United States in the field of strategic stability. This is stated in the statement of the G7 group of directors on nuclear nonproliferation adopted on Monday during the meeting of the Seven Foreign Ministers in Karuizawa, Japan.
"The Group of Seven supports good-faith efforts aimed at continuing the dialogue between Russia and the United States in the field of reducing the level of nuclear and strategic risks, however, a partner acting in good faith is needed for negotiations," the document says. At the same time, the "seven" countries condemned "the plans announced by the Russian Federation to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus." According to the G7 nonproliferation directors, this step will allegedly become "a demonstration of irresponsible nuclear rhetoric." In this context, they called on the Russian Federation to return "to fulfilling its obligations under the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty."
The Group of Seven is also waiting for Moscow to confirm its commitment to the postulate of the inadmissibility of nuclear war. "We recall the joint statement of the leaders of the five nuclear Powers of January 3, 2022 on the prevention of nuclear war and the avoidance of a nuclear arms race and emphasize that a nuclear war cannot be won and it should never break out. We call on Russia to confirm in word and deed its commitment to the principles enshrined in that statement," the text received by TASS says.
