OREANDA-NEWS  Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that Europe needs to invest more in its own security after Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election.

"I think the United States needs Europe, but Europe needs to understand that the United States has changed. This means that we have to take more responsibility for what we do, for example, in terms of security," he said in an interview with Bloomberg.

He also did not rule out that difficulties such as tariff increases or climate issues may arise under Trump.

Earlier, Stubb said that defense spending in Finland is likely to increase due to the alleged security threat from Russia and global instability.

Donald Trump, who already held the post of president of the United States after the 2016 elections, won the presidential election, which took place on November 5. He became the first politician in the United States since the 19th century who managed to return to the White House after a four-year break. Trump's victory was announced by all the leading media involved in counting votes: the Associated Press, Fox News, CNN, NBC, ABC and CBS.

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris spoke to supporters and said she would admit defeat, and incumbent US President Joe Biden spoke with Trump and congratulated him.

On December 17, the Electoral College of the states should vote for candidates in accordance with the will of the voters, and on January 6, the new composition of the Congress will approve the results of the vote. The inauguration will take place on January 20.
