The Death Toll of the Earthquake in Turkey Exceeds 70
OREANDA-NEWS. The death toll of the earthquake in western Turkey has risen to 73. This was reported by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).
According to the Turkish authorities, out of 961 hospitalized, 743 people were discharged, 218 remain to be in clinics. Since October 30, when the earthquake struck, there have been 1,044 aftershocks in the country, more than 40 of which exceeded magnitude of 4. On November 1, the AFAD reported of 69 deaths and nearly 950 injured people.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 occurred in the Aegean Sea, the epicenter was near the city of Seferihisar, Izmir province. Tremors were also felt on several Greek islands. The Turkish city of Izmir suffered the most, about 20 buildings were destroyed there. President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived there to control the situation.
