OREANDA-NEWS  The Federal Court of the Metropolitan District of Columbia has suspended all planned events as part of the proceedings in the case of Donald Trump's alleged attempt to retain power in January 2021. This is stated in the ruling of Judge Tanya Chatken, reports TASS.

Thus, the judge granted the previously filed petition of the US Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, who asked to cancel all planned events and hearings within the framework of the investigation.

Smith noted that the prosecution needs to assess the "unprecedented circumstances and determine the appropriate course forward." On December 2, his office will publish a report or otherwise notify the court of the results of the discussion of the incident.

The storming of the Capitol in the United States occurred on January 6, 2021, during a rally of Trump supporters who did not recognize the results of the vote, according to which Joe Biden was elected president. Democrats accused Trump of sedition and sent a resolution to Congress on his impeachment. Later in January 2021, the House of Representatives voted for impeachment in connection with the riots in Washington.
