OREANDA-NEWS  The American company ExxonMobil, which left Russia after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, began to actively protect its intellectual property. Since the beginning of the summer, she has filed about 20 lawsuits over the illegal use of her trademarks in Russian arbitration courts. Kommersant writes about this with reference to data from the file of arbitration cases.

The vast majority of claims relate to individual entrepreneurs. They relate to the violation of exclusive rights and the illegal use of trademarks, primarily on motor oil products. As such, the company considers the inscriptions Mobil 1, Mobil ultra, Mobil super, Mobil, Delvac, as well as the image of pegasus, the trademark of ExxonMobil.

As of October 20, the courts had fully satisfied three claims, four more were partially satisfied, and the rest are in the process of consideration. Fines for violations are small, the largest amount is 100 thousand rubles.

As the newspaper notes, ExxonMobil became the first Western major oil and gas company to take care of protecting its trademarks in Russia. At the same time, companies from other industries are working on this issue much more actively.

Lawyer of the K&P Intellectual Property Practice.Group Kristina Timofeeva suggested that Exxon wants to protect its own reputation, which may suffer due to the use of low-quality fakes.

Earlier it was reported that the share of sales of fake auto parts in Russia has peaked since 2007, while large sites do not disdain such goods, and their cost often does not differ from the price of the original. Most often, car owners and service stations are faced with fake engine oil.
