OREANDA-NEWS. Thai Minister of Health Anutin Charnwerakul criticized “western” tourists for not wearing face masks. He proposed to expel them from the country, since they increase the risk of other people getting coronavirus, Thai media reports.
“We must kick such people out of Thailand”, the minister told reporters. He noted that the authorities give out masks for free, but foreigners refuse to take them. The minister said that embassies and the public should be notified about this, the local news portal writes. He later apologized, stating that he had lost control because the Europeans refused to cooperate and wear masks.
Tourism revenues account for 18% of Thailand’s GDP, last year over 10 million Chinese citizens visited the country, CNA writes. By February 7, in Thailand, according to the World Health Organization, 25 people were infected with the 2019-nCoV type coronavirus.
The 2019-nCoV coronavirus outbreak began in China last December. 638 people have already become victims of the disease, more than 31 thousand are infected.
