OREANDA-NEWS  Thai police detained a foreigner at Phuket International Airport suspected of attempting to kill a Russian with a firearm. This was reported on Thursday by the edition of The Phuket Express with reference to the immigration department of the island.

According to him, the detainee is a citizen of Kazakhstan, who is suspected of attempting to murder a Russian businessman.

As the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Phuket Vladimir Sosnov told a TASS correspondent, an attempt on a Russian restaurateur who has been living in Thailand for a long time took place in one of the districts of Phuket on Wednesday. The man was in the car when a motorcyclist drove up to him and fired several shots, after which he fled the scene of the attack.

According to Sosnov, "after the attempted murder, the man was taken to the hospital, where he was operated on," an operation was performed the night before to extract the bullet from the lung. Employees of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation visited the victim before the operation, the diplomat noted.
