«Taliban» Co-Founder Abdul Ghani Baradar has Disappeared in Afghanistan
OREANDA-NEWS. Apparently, an acute conflict broke out in the leadership of the radical Islamist movement «Taliban» (banned in Russai), during which the deputy head of the government of Afghanistan and the co-founder of the «Taliban», Abdul Ghani Baradar, entered into a sharp dispute with one of the cabinet members, the British medical company BBC reported on Wednesday, September 15.
Conflicts between various factions of the «Taliban» have been reported before. Questions about the whereabouts and health status of the chief Afghan diplomat Baradar arose on September 13, when he did not arrive for talks with Qatar's Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani. Baradar led the «Taliban» delegation to the talks with the United States in Qatar and is considered one of the most influential leaders in the leadership of the «Taliban».
On September 14, the «Taliban» denied reports that Abdul Ghani Baradar was killed, releasing a fragment of an audio recording in which the alleged Baradar assures that he is «on a trip». A «Taliban» spokesman said Baradar was in Kandahar.
Rumors of a violent conflict between the so-called «Doha faction» and members of the «Haqqani faction», who hold the posts of interior and refugee ministers in the Afghan government, began to circulate immediately after the «Taliban» returned to power in mid-August.
Abdul Ghani Baradar, is not the only member of the «Taliban» leadership whose whereabouts are currently unknown. So, since 2019, nothing is known about the whereabouts of the spiritual leader of the «Taliban», Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada. According to rumors, he was killed in an attack in Pakistan.
