OREANDA-NEWS Sweden is allocating 500 million kronor ($49 million) to ensure energy supply in Ukraine, the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday.

"The government has decided to allocate an additional 500 million Swedish kronor to ensure heat and energy supply in Ukraine," the Swedish government said in a statement on its website.

The investment includes two gas turbines for the production of electricity in the first stage, the agency said.

The Foreign Ministry said that according to World Bank estimates, the allocated assistance will help generate electricity for 185 thousand people, which is currently one of Sweden's largest contributions to Ukraine's energy supply.

In June, Vladimir Zelensky, speaking at a forum in Berlin, said that 9 gigawatts of energy generation capacity had been destroyed in Ukraine, which is 80% of thermal power generation and a third of HPP production.

In June of this year, the country's energy minister, German Galushchenko, said that Ukraine had lost half of its electricity-generating capacity, it would not be enough to survive the winter, and electricity imports were not enough to cover the deficit. The director of the Ukrainian Center for Energy Research, Alexander Kharchenko, stated that rolling blackouts in Ukraine will last another two to three years, the first winter in Ukraine without blackouts is possible only in 2027 or 2028.
