OREANDA-NEWS. In Finland, more than 60 thousand residents were left without power supply because of the storm named Aila that raged on Thursday night.

This was reported by the broadcasting portal Yle with reference to weather services. The storm covered western and central parts of Finland, the portal notes. According to meteorologists, the wind blew at a speed of up to 29 metres per second, gusts reached 33 metres per second. At the Pietarsaari weather station, gusts of up to 35.3 meters per second were registered.

The regional rescue departments of South and Central Ostrobothnia reported that they had received hundreds of calls by the morning of September 17. The wind knocked down lampposts, trees fell on roads and power lines.

Engineers do not exclude that the restoration of power grids will take several days or even weeks. Energy companies informed that they are prepared for large-scale power outages in Finland and have reserved more workers for troubleshooting and providing customer service.
