Belarus is interested in oil supplies from Kazakhstan and the resumption of air traffic between the two countries. This was stated by Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko during a meeting with Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin, as the press service of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus reports.

The Prime Minister of Belarus said about the topic of the resumption of regular flights between the two countries. He noted: “The pandemic is on the decline. A positive decision on the restoration of air traffic will increase the intensity and quality of business interaction. All our proposals have been sent to Kazakhstan".

Golovchenko also proposed to discuss the prospects for concluding an agreement between the governments of Belarus and Kazakhstan about cooperation in the supply of oil and oil products.

He stressed: “I would like to know the position of Kazakhstan. If you are interested, we are ready to work in this direction. If because of some reasons there is a necessity to postpone this issue or the Kazakh side is not interest in this topic, then we are also ready to discuss this decision in order to clarify the formation of our supply balances for the next year”.

As a reminder, Belarus in mid-2019 began negotiations with Kazakhstan about oil imports. In the absence of contracts with the main Russian suppliers, due to disagreements over the price of oil, the negotiations were reopened in 2020.  Belarus was counting on duty-free oil supplies from Kazakhstan. However, the Kazakh side stated that it was ready to sell oil to Belarus, subject to payment of export duties or with a guarantee of no re-export.
