Finland Plans to Strengthen Border Security with Russia Due to "Hybrid Threats"
Source: OREANDA-NEWS
OREANDA-NEWS The Finnish Interior Ministry has proposed amendments to a number of border service laws to prepare for "hybrid influence" on the border with Russia, RIA Novosti reports, Gazeta.ru reported.
The amendments to the law imply closing certain sections of the border, building fences in the border area and limiting the number of asylum seekers "to combat the serious threat posed by large-scale immigration or instrumentalization of migration."
In addition, the amendments would temporarily prohibit the right to stay and move in a place or area near the border in exceptional circumstances, as well as introduce a provision to transfer property and provide services to border guards for full compensation to the owner. Thus, the owner of a land plot reaching the border with Russia will have to allow the construction of a track or road necessary to carry out tasks of the border guard, and the erection of border fences.
Parliament is expected to discuss the amendments before the summer break.
