OREANDA-NEWS NATO currently has no plans to invite Ukraine to join the alliance, this issue has not yet been raised. This was stated by Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez during an event organized by the newspaper La Vanguardia.
According to the diplomat, for its part, Ukraine also does not request this. At the same time, he stressed that the North Atlantic Alliance is a defensive organization.
“The food security crisis is already here, it has already begun to be felt in many countries. The food security crisis will last longer than the war,” Albarez said, adding that the issue could be discussed at the UN General Assembly in September 2022.
He also suggested that the conflict in Ukraine could drag on for a long time. Against this background, Madrid is trying to offer technical ideas for the export of blocked Ukrainian grain.
The day before, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on the member countries of the alliance to prepare for the fact that it will take a long time to help Ukraine.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a military special operation in Ukraine in response to a request for help from the heads of the LPR and DPR.
The decision to conduct the operation was the reason for new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies.
