OREANDA-NEWS Yuri Vladimirov, General Director of the Sochi commercial seaport, told RIA Novosti that the company's management plans to purchase its own cargo and passenger ferry in order to develop tourism and launch a message to Trabzon in Turkey, the search for the vessel has already begun.
There were statements about the launch of a cargo and passenger ferry between Sochi and Turkey last year, when the head of the Chamber of Commerce of the province of Trabzon, Erkut Chelebi, announced plans to put the vessel into operation after a nine-year break. According to him, the agreement on this was planned to be signed on April 6, and the ferry was planned to be launched in May.
It was assumed that the vessel would be able to accommodate up to 300 people and 200 cars.
In turn, the Sochi commercial port has prepared all the infrastructure for receiving the ferry, Vladimirov told the agency, but it was not possible to launch a vessel for passengers between the states. And today, the port's management is in search of a suitable marine transport for such transportation.
"We are considering purchasing a ferry for trips from Sochi to Trabzon, because we see and understand the need for this. The ferry will be a passenger ferry for tourists on their own personal vehicles, it will work here, this ferry will be in great demand. But it is small – up to 300 people at most, about 60-80 cars. It just doesn't exist now, we could even buy it ourselves, there is no such ferry on the market even in the east," Vladimirov said.
The agency interlocutor clarified that the connection between Sochi and Trabzon will improve the economic component of not only the port, give a start to the development of tourism, and close the requests of passengers who prefer inexpensive trips by sea. "We are looking for such a ferry for the development of tourism, if we find it, it will go to Trabzon. He will leave at 20 o'clock and at 8 a.m. he will be there (in Trabzon - ed.). If we find it, for example, within six months, if we buy it, we will launch it in two weeks," Vladimirov said.
He added that the ferry should be provided with a comfortable infrastructure with comfortable cabins and bars. The cost of ferry tickets will be affordable, Vladimirov says. In general, assessing the situation of transportation, the general director of the port stressed that today the company is open to cooperation with both Russian and foreign operators, and proposals are also being considered for a ferry that would meet the stated requirements for organizing a sea connection from the Olympic capital to Trabzon, Vladimirov concluded.
