OREANDA-NEWS. Six British companies will take part in a pilot project to reduce the working week to four days. The Day Week UK experiment will launch in the United Kingdom in June. It is being implemented on the initiative of New Zealand entrepreneurs Andrew Barnes and Charlotte Lockhart together with the Autonomy analytical center, as well as scientists from Oxford and Cambridge Universities and Boston College, The Times newspaper reports.
The project participants will work four days a week without salary reduction for six months. The organizers are going to use the «100:80:100» model, which implies 100% payment for 80% of working time in exchange for maintaining at least 100% of labor productivity.
The director of the Day Week UK project, John Ryle, expressed the opinion that the idea of a four-day working week is becoming more and more relevant. According to him, this experiment was created in order to show that this is a win-win option for businesses and employees. It is expected that about 20 more companies will join the experiment in the coming months.
Earlier, Iceland summed up the results of an experiment to reduce the working week to four days. The study was organized by the Reykjavik City Council, the Government of Iceland and local trade unions. The participants were 2.5 thousand municipal employees from various fields. It turned out that within four working days, labor productivity did not change, and working conditions became better.
