"The DPRK today at 07:36 local time from the region of Sondok city in the province of Hamgyon-Pukto launched several types of short-range shells to the northeast in the direction of the Sea of ​​Japan, their launch was blocked", the text says. According to the South Korean military, the shells fired by the DPRK flew 200 km and reached a maximum height of 50 km.

Earlier, the KNS reported that Pyongyang launched three shells. Intelligence agencies in the United States and South Korea are analyzing the information received about the launches, the agency said. "Our military is monitoring the situation in case of additional launches and is in a state of combat readiness", Seoul said. This is the second such launch since the beginning of 2020. In December 2019, DPRK leader Kim Jong-un announced that his country would soon introduce new strategic weapons.

Earlier, the DPRK authorities announced the conduct of long-range artillery exercises on March 2, during which large-caliber multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) were fired. In turn, the South Korean Committee of Chiefs of Staff (KNS) announced the launch of the DPRK from the Wonsan area in the direction of the sea of ​​two shells that flew 240 km, reaching a maximum height of 35 km.
